Year 2 Ocean Maths

Year 2 parents learned a maths game with Hannah this morning that would help them support their children's Maths skills. They played a game using a hundred square to add 2 digit numbers.

Sapphire and Silver classes came down to join them and the parents taught the game to the children. Everyone had a good time playing and learning at the same time.

Visiting The Moon

Emerald and Pearl classes have been creating storyboards for their moon animation.

Monkeys, dogs, a mouse, aliens and small girls feature in their moon stories. There is even a moon made of cheese!

Animating The Moon

Filmmakers Shelly Wain and John Harmer are working with Emerald and Pearl classes to make an animated film about the moon. They started the process by thinking about what they already knew about the moon and space. They thought about gravity and what it was like with no gravity. Then they looked at animations to gather animation ideas.

The children thought about location, character and their own ideas for the plot of the story. All the ideas will be gathered; John and Shelly will put them together to use them for the final storyline.

The Big Draw 2015

This year's Big Draw theme was movement.
Ann, Carina, Cathy and their families worked to totally transform the Middle Hall. There were washing lines, kites, umbrellas and even a swing! A dancer moved around the space whilst a pianist played for her. Wind machines provided a breeze to gently blow the dangling objects about.

It is really tricky to draw moving objects and people. Many artists have struggled to show movement. The children looked at other artists' work before coming into the middle hall to have a go themselves.

The children worked hard to represent the moving figures and objects. They sketched in chalk, pen, paint and pencil. Children drew in their sketchbooks and some children had an opportunity to draw on a much larger scale.

What a fabulous drawing experience!

Protective Capes

A well know artist called Rivane Neuenschwander is going to make a brand new piece of art to be exhibited at The Whitechapel Art Gallery. She wanted ideas from some children to inspire her so Ruby Class went along to help.

The artists at the gallery asked the children if they would share some of their fears with them. The children made lists for Rivane and then they drew designs for capes to protect them from their fears. After designing their capes, the children had a chance to make their very own cape.

The children used lots of different techniques to decorate and join materials. They stapled and stuck and taped; some children sewed their capes together.

The finished capes were splendid creations and protected children from scary movies, nightmares, baddies, cobras and many other things. Two children even made a double protective cape!

Who Pushed Humpty Dumpty?

Year 6 classes have turned detective!
They visited a crime scene in the Top Hall and gathered evidence from the clues they found. They raised questions about what might have happened to Humpty Dumpty.
Now they are writing their own detective stories.
