Ocean Maths in Year 1

Year 1 parents learned a maths game with Hannah this morning.
The children from Bronze and Ebony classes joined their parents to play the game and practise their counting and number skills.

Every child will have a game pack to take home tonight.

Learning Together

The school was full of very busy people on family learning day.
Parents and children painted together...

some children made teacups in the History workshop...

Bollywood came to Columbia...

and families made music together.

What a lovely day!

Family Learning Day

Many  parents learned new skills alongside their children on Family Learning Day.
You can see these children and parents had lots of fun making costumes from recycled cardboard in the Dressing Up activity.

In The National Gallery again!

Year 3 and 4 have been working with Ann and Carina on the Take One Picture project at The National Gallery.

This year's picture was  "Saint Michael Triumphant Over The Devil" by Bartolome Bermejo.
Year 3 made the scary dragon monsters that are hanging in the middle hall.
Year 4 made wooden panels for the stairwells.

Ann and Carina had just fixed the panels carefully to the wall and we were all admiring the work when The National Gallery called! They loved the work so much that they want to display the panels in the gallery this summer.
What an honour! Well done Year 4.

It's Enterprise Week!

This week classes are busy forming small cooperative 'companies' and making products to sell at this year's Summer Fair.

The children will be working out costs and profits in Maths, making their products in D.T. and Science, writing information about their products in Literacy and designing logos, badges and publicity materials in Art and Design.
These Year 1 children are looking pleased with their work so far!

Spitalfields Festival

Recorder Big Band, Columbia Brass Ensemble and Columbia bassoon players performed at a concert as part of the world famous Spitalfields Festival on Monday 9th June. They had been working hard for the event during the last term at school with their music tutors. The children played alongside a prestigious music group called The Orchestra for the Age of Enlightenment and they performed in historic Shoreditch Church.

Ex Columbia students also performed as part of a huge orchestra. It just shows that starting music at Columbia and continuing to practise hard really pays off!
The standard of music was very high and the professional musicians praised the skills of our Columbia musicians. The concert was enjoyed by all.
